Our "Crested Butte" Bear-Resistant Dumpsters are manufactured from 12 gauge steel. They are industry standard front loading dumpsters, available in 4, 6 and 8 cubic yard sizes.
The double access doors are secured with a bear-resistant paddle latch, which allows for personal trash disposal. The unloading lid is unlatched by our gravity latch during the dumping operation.
Our Gravity Latching Mechanism has a hook that is on a pivot. When the dumpster is lifted and rotated forward, the hook pivots away from the pin and allows the door to swing open. When the bear proof dumpster is set down the hook slides over the pin and engages to secure the lid in place.
There is a hook and pin setup on each side of the bear resistant dumpster, making it a cooperative 2-person operation to open manually if so desired. The hook/pins are slightly recessed for added resistance.
ENTIRE LID OPERATION
The gravity latch on the dumpster lid operates as shown below.
The pin that the latch engages is internal to the container, but is shown here on the outside for clarification purposes. When the dumpster is tilted, the latch will fall away from the pin. This allows the lid to swing away from the container. When lowered the lid closes and the latches once again lock, thus securing the lid again.
TOP ACCESS DOOR OPERATION
The top access doors on the Crested Butte Dumpsters have a spring loaded paddle latch. The latch is actuated by pulling back on the paddle. The paddle is enclosed within a housing for security. It is a slam style latch, so the latch will spring out of the way when the door is closed and return to the latched position while engaging a cutout feature on the container body.

The Crested Butte Bear-Resistant Dumpsters are manufactured from 12 gauge steel, industry standard front loading dumpsters. Our model ENC701 has a 4 cubic yard capacity and the double access doors are secured with a bear-resistant paddle latch, which allows for personal trash disposal with ease. The unloading lid is unlatched by gravity during the dumping operation. The exterior of the container is washed with a phosphatizing wash and then coated with 2-3 mils of a Super Durable TGIC polyester coating of the customer?s choosing. This finish prevents chalking and color degradation over time. The double access doors are secured with a bear-resistant gravity latch, which allows for personal trash disposal. This prevents the access doors from being accidentally left open. The unloading lid is unlatched by gravity during the dumping operation.
The Crested Butte ENC701 Dumpster was successfully tested by the Living With Wildlife Foundation (LWWF) at The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center located just outside of Yellowstone National Park. Please note that we cannot guarantee that a bear or any other animal could never breach or damage any of our dumpsters and Bearicuda will not guarantee or warranty against damages or breaches. It is highly unlikely that this would happen but always a possibility.

This prevents the access doors from being accidentily left open. The unloading lid is unlatched by gravity during the dumping operation. It is equipped with tabs that have been welded to the frame that prevent the access doors from opening more than 45 degrees.
